| Some
of Our Favorite Hikes |
|
Idaho |
|
Selkirk
Ridge - In the very northern most trip of North Idaho
there are many trails of all challenge levels to be explored,
all beautiful and sparsely visited. |
|
Chilco Peak - About 30
miles north of Coeur d'Alene the hike to the peak is long and
has a several thousand foot altitude gain on the way to the peak
but the views and workout are well worth it. |
|
Indian
Cliffs - South of Coeur d'Alene these trails are somewhat
mellow as they meander up a hillside but make for a nice, casual
afternoon hike. |
| |
| Oregon |
|
Bagby Hot Springs - Our
first hot spring hike you hike several miles through Oregon rain
forest before reaching these popular springs. |
|
Mount Hood - Year round
Mount Hood offers all sorts of outdoor challenges from hiking,
climbing, skiing, snowboarding, snow shoeing the list goes on
and on... |
|
Oregon Coast Beaches -
The Oregon coast is lined with many beautiful beaches and tide
pools to explore. |
| |
| Washington |
|
Palouse Falls - In south
central Washington this little known state park sports one of
the most beautiful waters falls we've seen. |
|
Dungeness Spit - A
smaller state park the spit offers an interesting hike out into
the Puget Sound where there is a light house awaiting visitor at
the end of the spit. |
|
Cascade Mountains - East
of Seattle there are countless trails and forest roads to
explore. |
| |
| Minnesota |
|
Crosby/Manitou Trails
- In northern Minnesota this trails work their way inland from
Lake Superior following streams and rivers and offer secluded
pack in only camping and some beautiful rapids and falls. |
|
North Shore - Known as
the "North Shore" to Minnesotans there are many year round sites
to be seen along the shores of Lake Superior. |
| |
| National Parks &
Monuments |
|
Olympic National Park -
West of Seattle the park is home to the Olympic mountains.
We have only just begun to explore its beauty. |
|
Mount Rainier - Probably the most
popular weekend destination near Seattle we've barely begun to
scratch the surface of this beautiful park. |
|
Badlands - One of my
personal favorites the slowly eroding buttes provide an
endlessly changing scenery for your adventures. As an added
bonus the seasonal rains often expose fossils from many
prehistoric eras. The South Dakota Badlands are the
gateway to the west when traveling on I90. |
|
Devils Tower - Famous from
its appearance in the movie "Close Encounters" I've visited the
ancient volcano several times. There are many hiking and climbing
opportunities around its base. |
|
Yellowstone - Best known
for its geo-thermal features Yellowstone's grand beauty and
endless adventure opportunities are too many to list. |
|
Grand Teton - Just south
of Yellowstone the Tetons are exceptionally beautiful. |
|
Grand Canyon - The earths
largest land based canyon offers adventures of all sorts on its
many different terrains. The canyon in its beauty should
however not be under estimated. Anyone thinking if hiking
the canyon must be in excellent condition and plan well in
advance. |
|
Bryce Canyon - Carved
over millions of years from the eastern edge of the Paunsaugunt
Plateau in southern Utah, Bryce offers many interesting vistas
along its trails. |
|
Zion - Vast, rocky
mountains provided for many interesting hikes |
|
Death Valley - Its name
is fitting, bring plenty of water and sun screen. We
explored the valley floor on our last trip there and hope to
explore some of the trails, mines, and ghost towns in the
surrounding hills and mountains on our next trips. |
|
Theodore Roosevelt - Near Medora, North
Dakota the park is a small an unexpected gem in the flat monotony of
the state. |
|
Mount Saint Helens NM -
Desolate terrain surrounds the northern slopes of the famous
volcano reminding all who see it of the display of geologic
power seen here not that long ago... |
|
Voyageurs - On the US/Canadian boarder of Minnesota
Voyageurs is a water based park where a canoe, kayak, or other
water craft is needed to explore the park. |
|
Joshua Tree - Many trails
to hike, a nice example of varied desert habitat to explore.
Can get very hot in the summer, we hiked there in December and
the weather quite pleasant. |
|
Saguaro - Home of the
majestic Saguaro cactus the park is actual split in to two
separate sections near Tucson, AZ. When people think of a desert
landscape the scenery here often comes to mind with its towering
cacti. |
|
Petrified Forest - On I40 in
northern Arizona the landscape in parts of this park resembles
that of the South Dakota Badlands but with deep reds and greens
in color. |
|
Sunset
Crater Volcano NM - Slightly north of Flagstaff,
AZ on the way to the Grand Canyon this monument is memorable for
its vast lava fields. |
|
White Sands NM - Just west
of Alamogordo, New Mexico the monument consists of ever changing
white sand dunes and is surrounded by the White Sands Air Force
base. It was fun hiking in the dunes and watching stealth
fighters fly over head. |
|
Carlsbad Caverns - The world
famous caverns are mostly tour driven however advanced
spelunkers can get special permits to explore deeper. |
