Hikes & Trips Photo Album

You can see a little bit of vegetation starting to grow in the foreground valley.   In this close-up of the crater in May of 2006 you can see the newest part of the dome forming.  The formation on the top was known as "The Shark Fin".

This ridge is north of the mountain and east of the Johnston Ridge Center.  One the volcano side the trees are flattened.  On the sheltered side of the ridge the trees are still standing but were killed by the heat and gases of pyroclastic flow.   If you zoom in on the large version of this picture of the west slope of Mount Saint Helens you can see what looks like very small trees trying to get a start.

Late in May we started our quest to visit as many Hot Springs as we can find.  This stream is on the trail to Bagby Hot Springs in Oregon.    The Bagby Hot Springs are to the southwest of Mount Hood which happens to be yet another volcano.

A nice little waterfall.   Rapids near the waterfall.
